Abraham Chait was part of a Lucchese syndicate operation that owned stock in Algam Corporation. The company was influential in operating Putnam Valley Stables and held ownership of Yonkers Raceway in Westchester County, New York. Chait's son, Burton, and his wife, Sara, served a owners of the Algam stock and as directors of Putnam Stables. Chait was an ex-felon. His ties to the Lucchese Mafia were made public during U.S. Senate testimony in 1952.
